ContraGel Effectiveness

ContraGel Effectiveness

To understand what ContraGel is and how it can be used as an effective part of an all natural birth control system, it is important to first understand what it is not. ContraGel is not a spermicide. To be classed as a spermicide, a product must contain Nonoxynol-9, a chemical that effectively kills sperm.

Of course, ContraGel was formulated to be body and earth friendly and therefore does not contain N-9. Consequently, ContraGel is not classed as a spermicide, but a contraceptive gel.

This also means that while spermicide is often used as a stand-alone method of contraception, ContraGel is only approved for use with a barrier contraceptive ie, a diaphragm, FemCap, or Caya. Its formulation increases the effectiveness of the barrier contraceptive, but on its own ContraGel is not an effective method of contraception.

How ContraGel Works

Unlike spermicide, ContraGel does not kill sperm. So how does it work?

ContraGel is interdependent with the barrier contraceptive it is applied to. The ingredient methyl cellulose gives ContraGel is thick viscous consistency, and when applied to the barrier contraceptive it creates a second physical barrier to prevent sperm from entering the cervix.

ContraGel also effects the PH level of the vagina. Vaginal PH is critical to allowing sperm to travel up into the cervix. ContraGel alters the PH of the vagina and creates an inhospitable environment for sperm.

ContraGel Is Proven Effective

In an outstanding new medical study, ContraGel was proven to be just as effective as Nonoxynol-9 spermicides when paired with a barrier contraceptive.

This is a massive victory for women all over the world who were waiting for confirmation that their birth control method is as effective as it is natural. There should no longer be a hesitancy by doctors and clinics suggest the use of ContraGel with a diaphragm in place of nonoxynol-9. Despite the lack of harsh chemicals, the formulation of ContraGel makes is an equally effective contraceptive Gel.

In addition to the groundbreaking new study, ContraGel effectivity and safety are well established. ContraGel is CE certified for use as a contraceptive gel used with a barrier contraceptive. It has a long history of customer satisfaction and excellent ratings. It was manufactured from 1972 until 2003 under the name Contracep Green and was more recently rebranded ContraGel Green.
